At this point the cells are exposed to a laser light which activates the photodynamic agent. As the light is absorbed by this agent, an active form of oxygen destroys the cancer cells.

Gene Therapy
An individual's genes are modified to correct the disease at the DNA level. There are two types, replacement gene therapy wherein a missing gene, such as a tumor suppressing gene is replaced with a normal copy of the gene, and knockout gene therapy, where genes that induce tumor formation are rendered inactive.

Complimentary and Alternative Medicine
Methods such as acupuncture, herbal remedies, homeopathy, therapeutic massage and Far Easter medicine are sometimes used. They may be used on their own, or in conjunction with conventional methods. When used together with traditional therapies, it is considered complimentary medicine.

When considering these new methods, it is imperative that you do it under the supervision of your doctor. He will know what new mesothelioma treatments might work best in your situation. If you choose to use unconventional methods it is important that you do not waste time hoping for a cure.
